Reed Thomas is a native of Wales, Utah. He received his bachelors in education from Utah State University in 1966 and his master’s in education from Northern Arizona University in 1972. He completed additional graduate work that led to an educational endorsement from Brigham Young University.
He taught for thirty-seven years in the public school systems of California, Nevada and Utah. He also taught BYU’s Education Psychology 514R, “Attitudes and Communication” at Snow College for teacher recertification.
His side interests include the raising of beef cattle and registered quarter horses, as well as team roping. At his annual “Top of the Crop” production sale, he marketed quarter horses throughout the United States and Canada. In 1999, he was selected King Cowboy by the Sanpete County Cattlemen Association. He organized and chaired the Sanpitch Cowboy Expo in celebration of the National Day of the American Cowboy. He served as co-chairman of the Hub City Days Rodeo committee for several years. He gives tribute to his mentor and hero, his father, a true American Cowboy, for these past life experiences.
His civic service includes completing a term as mayor in his hometown of Wales, as a member of the Mount Pleasant City Council, and as vice president of the construction of the Contoy Indoor Arena during its first six years of development. On July 4th, 2017, he and his wife, Robyn, were honored as grand marshals of the Hub City Independence Days Parade in Mount Pleasant, Utah.
